Data Privacy Considerations for Shared Reports

While shared reports are a powerful tool, it's important to be aware of potential data privacy implications. When you open a shared report, which is created by someone else on your Jira instance, you're granting the report author access to your Jira issue data, even if they don't normally have permission to view it. It is not the constant access to the data; rather, it signifies that you are sharing a technical capability for the report author to view the Jira issues and worklogs data available at the time of report execution.

Why does this happen? The report builder utilizes the provided data to create a report according to the author's script. In other words, the data obtained from Jira with your permissions is processed using the code of the report authors. Consequently, it is the report author who has the ability to view and store this data while it is being processed. While this enables complex and informative reports, it's essential to trust the report author.
